Garfield Avenue project affects travel on lower campus.

The project is expected to be completed in fall 2018, and the footbridge will be closed from late May to late August in both 2017 and 2018.

    Blugolds learn to help children with trauma return to the classroom

    Blugolds Nicole Fox and Emma Nickerson are pursuing different majors, but a UW-Eau Claire summer immersion program that took them to a children’s hospital in California helped them discover how closely their paths may interact in the future. Fox, Nickerson and eight other Blugolds were part of the Shriners Children’s Hospital-Northern California immersion program that gave the students hands-on experiences working with diverse youth who had a significant burn or orthopedic trauma.

    A UW-Eau Claire political science faculty member who is an expert in how politics and pop culture intertwine is continuing to draw international attention, with his work recently published by the U.S. Centre for American Politics and Policy at the London School of Economics. Dr. Eric Kasper, an associate professor of political science at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, is co-author of "Don't Stop Thinking About the Music: The Politics of Songs and Musicians in Presidential Campaigns."

    In response to student input, Recreation and Sport Facilities at UW-Eau Claire will soon replace its bowling facility in Hilltop Center with reconfigured recreation space for our students, faculty and staff.

    Astronomy lovers plan for 'The Great American Eclipse'
    Monday, Aug. 7, 2017

    A total solar eclipse will sweep across the United States for the first time in decades, creating what many astronomers are describing as the biggest astronomical event in the United States in many years. UW-Eau Claire will host an eclipse-viewing event from noon-2:30 p.m. Aug. 21 in the outdoor amphitheater in front of Davies Center. Astronomy faculty will have two or three telescopes set up for viewing. They also will have eclipse glasses (required for anyone viewing the partial or total eclipse) for visitors to use. They expect the best viewing in Eau Claire — maximum eclipse — to be a little after 1 p.m.

    Math has never been at the top of Sophie Topper’s list of favorite things to do. Yet this summer the 9-year-old is eager to get to her math class every morning and she talks nonstop about what she learned all the way home. Why the sudden interest in story problems, math facts and fractions? The fourth-grader is one of a handful of youth participating in UW-Eau Claire’s summer math intervention program. The program pairs kids — typically elementary school students who need extra help with math — with school psychology graduate students to work on math skills.
