The project is expected to be completed in fall 2018, and the footbridge will be closed from late May to late August in both 2017 and 2018.

    B.J. Hollars, a successful author and an associate professor of English at UW-Eau Claire, says he would not be a professor or writer today if it were not for his mentor, author Ray Bradbury. The two corresponded for a decade, trading letters from B.J.'s senior year in high school until Ray's death in 2012. In all that time, Ray shared insights not only on the writing life, but on life generally. Specifically, the importance of giving what you can to those who need it.

    A University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire geography professor with a talent and passion for creating learning experiences in his classroom and around the world has received a prestigious national teaching award. Dr. Ezra Zeitler, an associate professor of geography and anthropology, is the recipient of the 2017 Higher Education Distinguished Teaching Award. Each year the National Council for Geographic Education recognizes one to three educators from throughout the country for outstanding teaching in higher education. Zeitler is the first UW-Eau Claire faculty member to receive the award, and the sixth educator from a UW System school to receive the honor since it was established in 1982.

    Wisconsin’s 2017 Small Business Development Center of Excellence and Innovation Award was given to UW-Eau Claire’s SBDC office for playing a critical role in the state’s small business community. Luke Kempen and Dave Kochendorfer worked together to develop a financial projection template that is used throughout the Wisconsin SBDC network. Last year, the office’s consulting assisted 192 clients and led to 23 new businesses and 95 new jobs with a capital investment of $8.4 million.

    Academics and diplomats from the United States and Europe will gather this week at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire to debate how peace and security can best be achieved in Eurasia — a region that includes Europe and Asia — and what policies the U.S. should adopt to promote those actions. The Lazda Symposium on Global Issues will host the two-day event, titled “U.S. Foreign Policy and the Future of Eurasian Security.” The symposium, free and open to the public, will include a series of discussions Friday and Saturday, May 5-6, in Hibbard Hall and Schneider Hall on UW-Eau Claire’s lower campus.
