Gunther Carpenter

Gunther Carpenter

Works primarily with freshmen from Southwest and Southeast Wisconsin

Helping students find opportunities for growth and success in the Blugold community is the best part of my job.

Short Bio Information

Outside interests include: Traveling and playing basketball--and I'm a HUGE Netflix binger!

Fun Fact: As a student, I studied abroad in Valladolid, Spain, and traveled to eight other countries during the semester.

Education: B.A. in Psychology and Spanish from UW-Eau Claire, certificate in American Sign Language.

Favorite campus event: Football games--support our Blugold athletes and watch the incredible Blugold Marching Band!

Best thing about UW-Eau Claire: The number of opportunities for students to be involved outside of the classroom. Whether it's student/faculty research or joining an organization, students are engaged both on and off campus while also networking through the community.

Favorite restaurant in Eau Claire: Mogies--I have to get the spuds every time! Cheese-filled hash browns represent Wisconsin well!

What's on your iPod? Michael Jackson, Journey, Queen, and Styx...I was born in the wrong generation; I love the 80s!

It is so rewarding to help students explore their passions through the incredible opportunities our campus has to offer.

Short Bio Information

Outside interests include: Running, traveling, reading, baking, and spending time with friends and family!

Fun Fact: I am a huge Minnesota Wild fan! Ever since seeing the movie Miracle, I've been hooked!

Education: B.A. in Psychology, minor in Organizational Communication from UW-Eau Claire.

Favorite campus event: Live music in the Cabin. It's such a treat to see local artists perform right on campus and hear our own Blugolds on open-mic nights!

Best thing about UW-Eau Claire: The people! From students, to professors, to amazing staff members across campus, there are so many people here to support you in exploring your passions and interests. The relationships you form here will help you succeed personally and professionally.

Favorite restaurant in Eau Claire: Singha Thai in downtown is amazing. I'm thrilled that it's just a couple blocks from my apartment

Favorite spot in Eau Claire: Phoenix Park is a beautiful, fun hangout spot on any given day, but especially during the farmer's market and Music in the Park!

What's on your iPod? Farewell Milwaukee, Goo Goo Dolls, Maroon 5, Leon Bridges, and an extensive Christmas playlist for the holidays!

Favorite campus event: Homecoming...great way to show your Blugold pride!

Best thing about UW-Eau Claire: The variety of opportunities available. There is SO MUCH to get involved in on campus and in Eau Claire that I really challenge each of you to step out of your comfort zone and either join a new club or organization, study abroad or find an internship before you graduate.

Favorite restaurant in Eau Claire: Mona Lisa's...especially sitting on the patio in the summer time.

Favorite spot in Eau Claire: Phoenix park for the outdoor concerts and farmer's market.

What's on your Ipod? Rascal Flats, Lady Gaga, John Mayer - quite the diverse mix. :)

There is nothing more rewarding than being in a position that allows me to make a difference in people's lives. I have reached success through opportunities provided to me, and now I am able to do the same for others.

Short Bio Information

Outside Interests include: Working out, camping, fishing, hiking, kayaking, traveling, and visiting family.

Fun Fact: I am a Colorado Parks &Wildlife Master Angler, an award given to recognize anglers for success in their sport.

Education: B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Favorite campus event: Athletic events - I am a competitor, and I love watching our teams compete.

Best thing about UW-Eau Claire: The beautiful scenery that surrounds the campus. I also really love how accessible the city of Eau Claire is;just about everything is a short walk away from campus.

Favorite restaurant in Eau Claire: Stella Blues: Their sandwiches are delicious, and the environment is also great.

Favorite spot in Eau Claire: Anywhere from downtown to Phoenix park. I just love walking around that area.

What's on your Ipod? John Mayer, Jack Johnson, country, and Spanish music.

Angie Kochan

I love working with students to help them discover all of the amazing opportunities that are available to them and help them find their place here at UW-Eau Claire.

Short Bio Information

Interests include: Canoeing, kayaking, and boating (basically anything involving a lake!) as well as running, hiking, biking, baking, and being crafty.

Fun Fact: I once met and got to talk with the members of the band Foreigner at my hometown county fair.

Education: BS in Family and Consumer Sciences Education from UW-Stout.

Favorite campus event: Any time the Blugold Marching Band plays! Their sound is so powerful and the energy of the band is phenomenal!

Best thing about UW-Eau Claire: How beautiful the campus is any time of year, and the location of it to the rest of the city. It is so easy to get to and from places by foot or bike.

Favorite spot in Eau Claire: Carson Park, because there is always something to do there--you can attend Blugold football and Eau Claire Express games, or just go for a walk on one of the beautiful trails that runs through the park.

Favorite restaurant in Eau Claire: The Nucleus--their pancakes are AMAZING.

Kia Lee

I love hosting campus visits for college access groups. I'm always excited to show off our beautiful campus and to talk about the unique opportunities at UW-Eau Claire.

Short Bio Information

Interests include: Traveling, reading, running, and walking my Yorkshire Terrier!

Fun Fact: I am terrified of heights!

Education: M.S. degree in School Counseling from UW-Stout. B.A. degree in Sociology, minor in Psychology, from UW-River Falls.

Best thing about UW-Eau Claire: The great exercise you get by walking up and down the "hill" and along the beautiful riverside.

Best Eau Claire community event: I love taking part in the Eau Claire marathon! The best part is the "Blugold Mile" when the runners get to run through UWEC campus and are cheered on by hundreds of students. The music, energy, and excitement in the air makes those last couple of miles so much more bearable.

What was the last vacation you took?: Thailand. I hope to take my daughter there one day!

Best books I read in college?: "Dancing Skeletons: Life and Death in West Africa" by Katherine A. Dettwyler, "The Latehomecomer" by Kao Kalia Yang, and "Howl's Moving Castle" by Diana Wynne Jones.

Isabel Walters

Works primarily with transfer students, nontraditional students, and military veterans

The best part of my job is helping prospective students of all educational backgrounds achieve their goals and discover their place in the wonderful UW-Eau Claire community.

Short Bio Information

Interests include: Baking, watching movies, crafting, playing piano and working on my golf game (I have a LOT of work to do).

Fun Fact: I grew up on a hobby farm in a very small town, so chickens, exploring the woods and playing barefoot outside all day were huge parts of my childhood.

Education: BS in Human Development & Family Studies from UW-Stout.

Best thing about UW-Eau Claire: The overall experience UW-Eau Claire provides for its students really sets it apart. Strong academics, involvement opportunities and an absolutely beautiful campus make it hard to beat!

Favorite spot in Eau Claire: I love Phoenix Park! I spend a lot of time there on walks, at the Farmer’s Market and watching Music in the Park every Thursday during the summer.

Favorite restaurant in Eau Claire: Water Street Deli, Local Lounge and The Nucleus.

Aaron Mayo

Works primarily with international students

I particularly enjoy working with international students. My work as an International Admissions Counselor gives me the unique opportunity to show off the beautiful UWEC campus to prospective international students. This can best be described as my dream job!

Short Bio Information

Outside interests include: Biking, traveling, and searching for slow cooker recipes.

Fun Fact: I have been in minor traffic accidents in the Philippines, Thailand, and Korea.

Education: BA in Environmental Studies from Gustavus Adolphus College and an M.A. in International Studies from Concordia University-Irvine.

Favorite campus event: Homecoming! I love the atmosphere on campus and visiting with alumni who continue to maintain close ties to campus.

Best thing about UW-Eau Claire: Being a biker, I really like the pedestrian paths that connect UW-Eau Claire to the surrounding community. They make it really easy to explore the city!

Favorite restaurant in Eau Claire: Court'n House--BOGO burger baskets on Thursdays!

Favorite spot in Eau Claire: Phoenix Park. I live about a pitching wedge away from there, and the live music and farmer's market are excellent!

What's on your Ipod? Grouplove, the Mowgli's, the Shins, Andrew McMahon, and *cough*katyperry*cough*.

Heather Pearson

I enjoy helping prospective transfer and international students explore UWEC and discover how we can help them achieve their educational goals!

Short Bio Information

Interests include: Dining at the awesome restaurants in Eau Claire, hiking and biking on the trails in our area, trying new classes at the gym, and working on fun house projects.

Fun Fact: I love to travel! So far, I've explored 25 of the United States and ventured to 18 different countries.

Education: BS in Art from Edgewood College, Masters of Education-Professional Development from UW-Eau Claire.

Favorite campus event: International Folk Fair

Best thing about UW-Eau Claire: The wide variety of activities, the beautiful campus, and (of course!) the students.

Favorite spot in Eau Claire: Downtown, especially Phoenix Park.

Favorite restaurant in Eau Claire: The Nucleus.

If you could choose one reality TV show to be on, which one would it be? "The Amazing Race" - I'd love to go on a worldwide adventure and maybe even win $1,000,000!

What is the last vacation you took? Last winter I went on a Caribbean cruise. The warm weather was a nice contrast to the frigid cold in Wisconsin.

What's on your Ipod? A little bit of everything, but definitely dominated by musicals.

Joey Bohl

Works primarily with residency and residency reviews; technology and application processing management

The best part of my job is helping students and parents navigate the new and sometimes complicated world of admission applications. It is rewarding to help students from the start of an application to actually see them register for classes.

Short Bio Information

Interests include: Community work, rehabbing my house, traveling (still want to go to Australia), and spending time with family and friends.

Fun Fact: I met my husband while working with Habitat for Humanity. After SEVERAL hours of mudding and taping a home, we were both convinced that if we could survive through mudding and taping then marriage would probably be a piece of cake!

Education: BA in Communication Studies from UW-Eau Claire (Go Blugolds!), MED in Higher Education from Ohio University. (Go Bobcats!)

Favorite campus event: Attending events of students I know - especially the Varsity Show at Homecoming.

Best thing about UW-Eau Claire: The vibrant student atmosphere.

Favorite spot in Eau Claire: Farmer's Market, Draganetti's for great Italian food.

If stranded on a desert island: Swimsuit, fishing pole, sunscreen, boat (of course, to get off eventually), hammer and nails to construct a cute little hut, my husband to help with construction of the cute little hut.

Interests include: Reading; concerts; being an outdoor nut - gardening, running, playing tennis, golf, and sand volleyball; and spending time with my family!

Fun Fact: While working on a housekeeping crew at an island resort during high school, I had the privilege of changing Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere's sheets!

Education: BA in Mass Communications, minor in English literature from UW-Eau Claire - Go Blugolds! MA from Gonzaga University in Organizational Leadership - Go Zags!

Favorite campus event: Campus Ambassador training

Best thing about UW-Eau Claire: The natural beauty of campus (the view from the bridge is a great way to start and end each day!) and the great community of Eau Claire (friendly people, great events, restaurants, coffee houses and shops).

Favorite spot in Eau Claire: Besides some great local restaurants, I would say the trails that run through campus along the river!

Favorite restaurant in Eau Claire: Local Lounge, The Goat, Nucleus, Johnny's - you define the mood you're in and you'll find a place to match it.

What's on your Ipod? Mumford and Sons, Kings of Leon, Kings of Leon, Gaslight Anthem, Pearl Jam, Pink, and of course, our own alum's band - Bon Iver.
