Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

The Master of Science in Nursing program is designed to prepare you for a population focus in Adult-Gerontologic Health Nursing or Family Health Nursing and provides functional role preparation as a nurse educator or administrator. The core curriculum is designed to develop and increase your competencies in theory analysis and evaluation; concept clarification and development; research and refined skills in clinical inquiry; leadership; and analysis of contemporary issues. Building on the core curriculum, you'll apply new knowledge and skills in the clinical setting.

Adult-Gerontologic Health Nursing

Adult-Gerontologic Health Nursing is the application of advanced professional nursing in the care of adults and older adults. Advanced professional nursing in this context refers to concepts, theories and methods that focus on actual and potential health problems and human responses of adults and older adults. Focus is on assessment of adults and older adults within the context of nursing theory and adult development and analysis, application, and evaluation of nursing clinical decision-making with adults and older adults having actual or potential health problems.

Family Health Nursing

Family Health Nursing is the application of advanced professional nursing in the care of the family as a unit and including its members. Advanced professional nursing in this context refers to concepts, theories, and methods that focus on actual and potential health problems and human responses of families. Focus is on assessment of families within the context of nursing and family theories and analysis, application, and evaluation of nursing clinical decision-making with families having actual or potential health problems.

Functional Role Preparation

The functional role preparation area for nursing education:

  • Educator preparation is the application of population focus knowledge and skills in the role of nursing faculty. You'll be prepared for entry level positions as nurse educators.

The functional role preparation area for nursing administration/leadership and management:

  • Administrator preparation is the application of population focus knowledge and skills in the role of nursing administration. You'll be prepared for entry and mid-level positions as nurse administrators.
